At the 3rd Annual Conference of the International Fireworks Association in 2007, all members expressed the hope that the Association would be able to join COMMITTEE OF EXPERTS ON THE TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS AND ON THE GLOBALLY HARMONIZED SYSTEM OF CLASSIFICATION AND LABELLING OF CHEMICALS (TDG&GHS) pursuing the right of discourse on the fireworks industry on the world stage. After making fruitful preparation, the IFA put forward an application in March, 2008.
With its higher position in the international community and sufficient preparation of information data, the IFA had the application passed at the TDG&GHS conference on July 2nd, 2008. Since then, the Association has become an official observer with consultative status in that sub-committee.
As the first non-governmental organization in the international community to set its headquarters in China, the IFA represents the interests of both the global fireworks industry and the main production areas, because China, the main fireworks producer in the world, accounts for over 80 per cent of the market. The IFA¡¯s joining TDG is conducive to the direct communication between the fireworks industry and the international community, and standardized development and international criteria coming into China, thus facilitating our industry and strengthening it through international practice. On the whole, the membership of the IFA in TDS of the UN will provide a broad arena for the fireworks industry to integrate into the international community through its right to discourse.
